The Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary group of surgeons at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital are core members of the multidisciplinary teams that provide care for a full range of benign and malignant liver, pancreatic, and biliary disorders.
This group offers the best concentration of expertise in these specialty areas in Ireland. This is reflected in the concentration of the designated national specialties in Liver Transplantation, Pancreatic Cancer Surgery and Neuroendocrine Tumour management on the St. Vincent’s Elm Park campus.
Special areas of interest represented within the HPB surgical group include:
- Liver resection for primary and secondary liver tumours, including cholangiocarcinoma and extended criteria liver resection
- Pancreatic resection for cancer and chronic pancreatitis management of biliary injury, as well as treatment of gallstones.
- Laparoscopic techniques are widely used for all aspects of these programs including liver and pancreas resections as well as gallstone management.
Care of liver transplant patients is integrated with the National Liver Transplant Unit at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. All cancer care is delivered by multidisciplinary teams including colleagues from medical and radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology.
The HPB surgical group is committed to clinical excellence in a caring environment. A number of research programmes, in conjunction with national and international collaborators, underpin the clinical activity of the HPB programme.
